Nel Hydrogen, headquartered in Oslo, is a leader in both alkaline and PEM water electrolysis. With more than 7,000 electrolyser stacks installed worldwide, they are a frontrunner in the burgeoning green hydrogen industry.

At the 248th meeting of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) in Chicago, Nel will present their findings from over 3,300 hours of operando EIS and the resulting advanced analyses. These analyses helped Nel optimize cells that maintain reliability while running at >3 A/cm². Pulsenics, a Toronto-based producer of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy diagnostic solutions, helps hydrogen producers working at industrial current densities to build more reliable stacks.

Nel Hydrogen engaged Pulsenics for our unique ability to run operando EIS on high power, industrial electrolysers. DRT models come pre-built into the digital layer of Pulsenics solutions and enable electrochemists to pinpoint sources of performance loss to optimize stack design.

Nel's Devashish Kulkarni will present at ECS in Chicago on October 16th, 2025 at 4:20pm. If you’re attending the conference, please join us for this fascinating session on the developing field of DRTs!

Key takeaways will include:

  • How EIS-based advanced analytics enhance understanding of electrochemical systems
  • How DRTs can be strategically used to quantify electrolyser stack degradation and sudden failures
  • Why analyses based on Nyquist and Bode plots often fail to distinguish closely occurring reactions
